Medicus Breakpoints – #2 Toe-Up Position
Medicus Breakpoint #2 is the Toe Up Position, as you transition from your take away to the middle of your back swing.
More than likely, the Medicus dual hinge will break if you have too much wrist action, or over-rotation of the hands and wrists as you get to the toe-up position in the back swing.
A few of you may under rotate your wrists, but a far more common problem is getting too handsy in the back swing, and the toe-up position becomes the toe-angled, or the toe-sideways position. If the toe of your golf club isn’t pointing towards the sky as it should at this point in your back swing, chances are the dual hinge will break.
If the Medicus dual hinge does break for you at this breakpoint, try your best to control any extra motion with your hands and wrists. The toe of the golf club is probably pointing behind you, rather than up. Again, a few of you may have the problem of under rotating, which would cause the toe of the club to point forward. This would also cause the dual hinge to break.
One of the worst possible swing flaws that would cause the dual hinge to break at this point in your swing would be a reverse pivot. Correcting this may require the assistance of a teaching pro, as you may have a severe problem with your weight shift and overall posture and position. This is a flaw that the Medicus dual hinge swing trainers can detect, but the real fix may require professional assistance.
If you have a reverse pivot, the dual hinge will probably break at either Medicus Breakpoint #2 (Toe Up Position), or Medicus Breakpoint #5 (Position at Impact).
If you consistently find that the Medicus dual hinge breaks at either Medicus Breakpoint 2 or Medicus Breakpoint 5, I would highly recommend that you hire a PGA teaching professional to help you correct this swing flaw.
Working with a professional golf swing coach will be more than worth it, as the Medicus Driver can help, but it’s not a magic pill. The reverse pivot is a nasty swing flaw, and should be addressed sooner rather than later. The attached Medicus video really shows you the correct position that you should be in at the toe-up position in your back swing.
